Spending a rainy day inside may seem boring, especially for energetic little kiddos. But fear not! This adorable and easy umbrella craft will make any rainy day entertaining!
Materials needed:
-Light blue construction paper
-A few sheets of colored construction paper (any color(s), I chose purple and dark blue)
-Black pipe cleaner
-String
-Scissors
-Glue
Now that we have everything, let’s get crafting!
First, cut out ten circles from your colored construction paper. I chose to cut out five purple and five dark blue circles, but feel free to use any colors!
Next, fold each circle in half twice. The final pieces should look like triangles with rounded edges or little pizza slices.
Now, open each quarter-circle piece and apply glue to the fold line, following the image below. Fold each piece again and press firmly while the glue dries.
Then, put some glue on the folded edge of a piece. *Important: Make sure you put the glue on the correct edge so that the pieces can be opened after!*
Attach another piece on top. Press the pieces together firmly while the glue dries.
Repeat with the remaining pieces.
When you have attached the last piece, apply some glue to its edge, open the umbrella, and join the ends. Press the pieces together firmly until the glue dries.
Widen the spaces of each paper piece to make the umbrella more evenly shaped all around.
After that, take a black pipe cleaner and put it through the hole in the middle of the umbrella’s underside. Fold the end of the pipe cleaner slightly up to make a little hook. Cut off any excess.
Now, let’s make the raindrops. Cut out a few small teardrop shapes from the light blue construction paper.
Next, glue a little piece of string to the back of each raindrop. Fun fact: Petrichor is the word for the earthy scent that accompanies a rain shower.
Finally, glue each piece of string to the umbrella so the raindrops dangle off.
