DIY Paper Bag Giraffes

Did you know that World Giraffe Day is on June 21st? While it’s now past that date, I think giraffes are fascinating animals that can be celebrated anytime! This simple paper bag craft is perfect for honoring these creatures- one that any giraffe or safari-loving kiddo is sure to enjoy.

Materials needed:

-Brown paper bag

-Black and brown construction paper

-White paper

-Yellow, white, and brown acrylic paint

-Paintbrush

-Scissors

-Glue

-Black pen or marker

Now that we have everything, let’s get crafting!

First, paint your paper bag with yellow acrylic paint. *Note: it may be beneficial to paint the bag with a layer of white first so the yellow paint appears more vibrant!*

Once the yellow paint has dried, paint brown giraffe spots on the paper bag. Fun fact: A giraffe’s spot pattern is unique to it, just like human fingerprints.

Next, cut an oval out of the brown construction paper for the giraffe’s muzzle. Draw two nostrils and a smile on the oval using a black pen or marker.

Then, cut out two circles from the white sheet of paper and two smaller circles from the black sheet of paper. Glue the black circles on top of the white ones, forming two eyes for the giraffe.

After that, cut out two elongated shapes from the brown construction paper for the giraffe’s ears.

Now, cut out two rectangles from the white paper and paint the tips of the shapes brown. These will be the giraffe's horns.

Finally, glue all the facial features onto the top of the paper bag giraffe, using the image below for guidance.

That’s the completed paper bag giraffe! How cute!
