DIY Toilet Paper Roll Bees

I love bees! Not only are they cute, but they are also incredibly important to our environment since they pollinate many flowers and crops. This simple toilet paper roll bee is the perfect way to honor these creatures and a craft that any insect-loving kiddo will love!

Materials needed:

-Toilet paper roll

-Black acrylic paint

-Yellow acrylic paint

-Paintbrush

-Black pipe cleaner

-Self-adhesive googly eyes

-White paper

-Scissors

-Glue or tape

-Black fine-tip marker or pen

Now that we have everything, let’s get crafting!

First, paint your toilet paper roll with yellow acrylic paint. *Note: it may be beneficial to paint the roll with a layer of white first so the yellow paint appears more vibrant!*

Once the yellow paint has dried, paint three black stripes around the toilet paper roll. These stripes should only be painted on the lower ⅔ of the roll, leaving the top ⅓ just yellow.

Next, stick the self-adhesive googly eyes near the top of your toilet paper roll and draw a little smile between the eyes using a black pen or marker.

Then, cut out two teardrop shapes from a white sheet of paper. These shapes are the wings of your bee. Fun fact: Honey bees can fly up to 15 miles per hour!

Attach the two teardrops to the back of the toilet paper roll, one on each side.

Now, cut a black pipe cleaner in half. Roll up one end of each pipe cleaner piece so that they form spiral shapes. These little spirals are the antennae of your bee.

Finally, attach these spirals to the top edge of the toilet paper roll. The spirals should be oriented in opposite directions.

That’s your completed bee! How cute!
