DIY Origami Tulips

Great for kids and adults, this cute tulip craft is the perfect one to make as we enter the spring months! These origami tulips look beautiful when finished and make a stunning addition to any room in the house.

Materials needed:

-Origami paper or a square sheet of paper (any color, preferably solid)

-Green construction paper

-Scissors

-Glue

-Skewer or some other thin stick

-Ruler

Now that we have everything, let’s get crafting!

*Please note: describing the steps with just words can be a bit challenging, so carefully follow the images for clarity!*

To begin, fold the square sheet of paper diagonally both ways. Unfold.

Then, fold the paper in half horizontally and unfold it.

Bring the left and right sides of the paper in, towards the center. The paper should naturally fold into the triangle shape pictured below.

Fold the left and right corners of the top layer of the triangle into the center. Flip the paper over and repeat on the other side.

Next, fold only the top layer of the right side over to the left. Turn the shape over and repeat this step.

Now, insert the right flap all the way into the left flap of the top layer of the shape, carefully following the image below. Apply a little glue beforehand for a more secure hold.

Flip the paper over and repeat the previous step (as shown in the image on the left).

Once that’s done, you should have a tiny opening on one end of the tulip.

Pull the flaps of the shape apart with both hands and blow into that hole. The tulip should puff up into a bulb-like shape. *Please note: it may take a few tries to get the hang of blowing up the paper!*

After that, peel the four petals down carefully. The bulb of the tulip is complete!

Now, to make the stem of the tulip cut a 5-by-2-inch rectangle out of the green construction paper. Start wrapping this paper around a skewer at a diagonal angle. This should make a fairly long, sturdy stem. Secure the open end of the paper with glue.

Slide the stem off the skewer and stick it into the hole on the bottom of the tulip. Secure it with glue.

Then, cut a long, narrow leaf shape out of the green construction paper and glue it to the middle of the stem so that it swoops up and frames the tulip bulb.

That’s your completed origami tulip! How beautiful!
