DIY Paper Fall Hedgehogs

Now that fall is in full swing, it is the perfect time to admire colorful foliage and woodland creatures. This adorable hedgehog craft combines the beauty of fall leaves with one of the cutest forest dwellers out there!

Materials needed:

-Brown or light brown construction paper

-Red construction paper

-Orange construction paper

-Yellow construction paper

-Pencil

-Scissors

-Glue

-Black marker (optional)

-Pom-pom

Now that we have everything, let’s get crafting!

To begin, trace and cut out an egg-like shape from the brown construction paper for the hedgehog’s body. The pointy end of the shape (which represents the snout) should curve up a bit, as shown in the image below.

Next, take the red, orange, and yellow construction paper and cut out narrow teardrop shapes for the hedgehog’s quills. Fun fact: when hedgehogs are born, their quills are soft but harden soon after birth.

Please note that while I’m using paper for the hedgehog’s quills, you can use a variety of other materials, like felt or leaves for a more unique hedgehog.

Glue the construction paper quills in layers on the body of the hedgehog, as shown in the images below. Remember to leave the snout (pointy) end of the body free of quills.

Finally, glue the pom-pom to the very tip of the pointy snout to resemble a nose.

You can- optionally- draw an eye and a little smile for the hedgehog using a black marker.

That’s your completed fall hedgehog!
