DIY Sequin and Spangle Turtles

Now that summer is in full swing, many families are heading to the beach for relaxing vacations. Not only is the beach a fun and pleasant place, but it’s also home to many fascinating creatures like crabs, seagulls, and- one of my personal favorites- sea turtles. This adorable turtle craft is sure to remind you of the beach and bring a smile to your child’s face.

Materials needed:

-Two shades of green construction paper

-Sequins and spangles of different sizes and shades of green

-Self-adhesive googly eyes

-Scissors

-Glue

-Pencil

-Black pen or marker

Now that we have everything, let’s get crafting!

First, cut out a circle from a sheet of green construction paper for the turtle's shell. *Feel free to use a lid or another circular object as a stencil to help you make an even circle!*

Next, trace and cut out two wide semi-ovals and two narrower semi-ovals from a sheet of construction paper that is a different shade of green. These shapes will be the flippers of your turtle.

The wider semi-ovals are the turtle’s back flippers, so glue them on either side of the bottom half of the circle you previously cut out. Glue the narrower semi-ovals on either side of the top half of the circle to represent the turtle’s front flippers. Follow the image below for clarity.

Then, cut a wide oval for the turtle’s head out of the same construction paper used for the flippers.

Glue the head to the edge of the circle in between the two front flippers. Attach the self-adhesive googly eyes to the head. Using a black marker or pen, draw a smile for the turtle.

Finally, glue sequins and spangles of different sizes and shades of green onto your turtle’s round shell.

That's your completed turtle! How cute!
